KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Before Tennessee upset No. 4 Kentucky on Tuesday night, Wildcats coach John Calipari told Rick Barnes that he was “crazy” to play such a tough non-conference schedule this season.
Tennessee’s veteran coach chuckled, but Barnes quietly hoped that the lessons learned in close losses to Oregon, Wisconsin, North Carolina and Florida would pay off against the Wildcats.
A young Vols team played with poise and physicality on Tuesday night, scoring a major upset by beating UK 82-80 in front of a raucous crowd at Thompson-Boling Arena.
“Hopefully we’re growing up,” Barnes said.
“We’ve played 20 games against one of the toughest schedules in the country.”
On Wednesday’s Rocky Top podcast, WNML’s Josh Ward and SEC Country’s Jesse Simonton break down Tennessee win, with postgame sound bites from Barnes and seniors Robert Hubbs III and Lew Evans.
They discuss how the Vols knocked off the ‘Cats and what it means moving forward.
Later, they chat about Tennessee’s latest commitment with 3-star receiver Joshua Palmer. With 28 pledges now in the 2017 class, how will the numbers shake out just a week before National Signing Day?
Finally, a quick Senior Bowl update on former quarterback Josh Dobbs and the news of Jon Gilbert leaving UT’s athletic department.
