Tennessee running back Joe Young was held out of spring practice with an undisclosed injury, and coach Butch Jones told GoVols247’s Ryan Callahan Young will serve as a “student coach” while he continues to recover.
The nature of Young’s injury is unknown, but Jones did not close the door on Young’s career at Tennessee.
“I would say he’s got to go through some other things, but right now we anticipate him being a student coach,” Jones said. “We’ve got to see, again, how the body heals and he goes through some different testing right now.”
Young, a 5-foot-11, 200-pound sophomore, appeared in five games for the Vols last season, tallying 19 carries for 64 yards and one touchdown. The Fairfield High School (Winnsboro, S.C.) product was ranked as the No. 175 running back in the Class of 2015 by 247Sports.
