The career of Tennessee Volunteers sophomore running back Joe Young may be over.
Young will likely take a medical hardship this season after it was revealed he suffered an injury near his neck, according to Knoxville radio WNML’s Jimmy Hyams.

Tennessee coach Butch Jones recently said Young would likely see the football field as a “student coach” in 2016, but did not reveal the nature of the injury. He did not rule out a return by Young.
“I would say he’s got to go through some other things, but right now we anticipate him being a student coach,” Jones told GoVols247’s Ryan Callahan at the time. “We’ve got to see, again, how the body heals and he goes through some different testing right now.”
Young played in five games last season, totaling 19 carries for 64 yards and a touchdown. He was ranked as the nation’s No. 175 running back in the Class of 2015, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.
