Where are we with the Grayson kids we are pursuing

Every FBS program probably has at least a few offers extended to prospects at Grayson High School in Logansville, Ga. The school features 12 Class of 2019 prospects ranked in the top 115 in Georgia, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
The former Tennessee staff went after a couple of the top prospects. Coach Jeremy Pruitt has made the top Grayson prospects a priority. The Vols are going to be in the final conversation with three of them.
- Owen Pappoe. The 5-star linebacker named Georgia and Auburn as his top two schools on Sunday. I went into greater detail on the Pappoe recruitment in my notebook Tuesday. The Vols are trailing, but there is interest. Pappoe took a visit to Knoxville last Saturday after coming up in January. The second trip wasn’t initially supposed to happen, meaning he must have wanted to get a better look at Pruitt and his staff. Tennessee is behind on this one, but it’s not completely out of it.
- Wanya Morris. The 4-star tackle trimmed his list to Tennessee and Auburn on Tuesday night. The Tigers have been in on Morris for a while and might have a slight edge. Morris visited Tennessee with Pappoe over the weekend. Tennessee needs help on the offensive line. A clear path to early playing time could help tip matters into the Vols’ favor.
- Ronald Thompkins. The 4-star athlete could play running back or cornerback for the Vols. He cut his list to four schools on Monday: Tennessee, Mississippi State, Penn State and USC. This one might not be done soon. Alabama offered him this week and LSU “reoffered” him Tuesday. Thompkins and Morris both were committed to Florida State at one point. The two obviously have had thoughts of playing together.
Landing any of these three prospects would be a win for Tennessee. It’s possible they could make real impacts early in their college careers on Rocky Top.
Thompkins is the one I feel the best about. Morris is a toss-up, but the longer it goes the more I think the scales tip toward Tennessee. Pappoe is the longshot among these players.
