Tennessee is looking to recapture its glory from the 1990s. Join us daily at SEC Country for the latest Tennessee recruiting news and notes on the next crop of Volunteers. Today, we discuss two top Vols targets, 4-star RB Harold Joiner and 2019 LB Owen Pappoe, who narrowed down their respective recruitments over the weekend.
Harold Joiner narrows it down to 12
Tennessee already has its first running back in the Class of 2018 in 3-star Melbourne, Fla., all-purpose back Jashaun Corbin.
The Vols hope to add at least one more running back to the class, and among the top targets is 4-star Birmingham, Ala., RB Harold Joiner. On Sunday, Tennessee received good news when Joiner included the Vols among his top 12 schools.

Among the more interesting things about Joiner is his 6-foot-3, 218-pound frame. It’s a similar makeup to former Tennessee RB Jalen Hurd, who was 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds as a high school senior.
Joiner, who ranks as the No. 11 running back in the Class of 2018 and the No. 223 overall prospect according to 247Sports’ composite rankings, has nearly 30 offers. Joiner is the fourth-highest rated running back in the class that has yet to commit behind Zamir White, Fabian Franklin and Asa Martin.
Tennessee making Joiner’s top 12 is no surprise. Shortly after he received his Vols offer, Joiner told SEC Country that Tennessee was one of his top schools. He also has an affinity for the SEC, considering seven of the league’s schools made his top 12.
LSU and Auburn are considered the favorites by the 247Sports crystal ball predictions.
Top 2019 LB Owen Pappoe names top 10
Tennessee has built serious recruiting momentum over the last couple weeks. While that’s manifested mostly in the Class of 2018, Tennessee is up to four members in its Class of 2019.
Among those four players, three are receivers and one, Adonis Otey, is a cornerback. Between the 2018 and 2019 classes, the Vols have yet to add a linebacker. Among the Vols’ top targets at linebacker over the next two years is Owen Pappoe, a 4-star outside linebacker in the Class of 2019 who’s likely to be atop a lot of teams’ lists.
While Tennessee is virtually certain to land a linebacker before Pappoe makes his decision, it still got some good news regarding the No. 1 outside linebacker and No. 4 overall player in the Class of 2019 when he dropped his top 10 on Sunday. Tennessee made the cut, along with Florida State, Alabama, Clemson, Auburn, LSU, Nebraska, Florida, Georgia and Ohio State.

Pappoe’s cut was a pretty difficult one, as he has already has 40 offers. Cal, Louisville, Miami, Michigan and Notre Dame were among the 30 teams that didn’t make the cut for the Loganville, Ga., product.
Tennessee has offered two of the three players 247Sports ranks ahead of Pappoe in the Class of 2019 — No. 1 overall player Kayvon Thibodeaux, a defensive end, and No. 2 overall player Ishmael Sopsher, a defensive tackle.
Florida State is the early favorite to land Pappoe, but Tennessee does have one prediction via the 247Sports crystal ball to land him.
