First, props to Mike Shuford for nailing the Ramel Keyton decision. It didn’t take Sherlock Holmes to read the tea leaves that Keyton was leaning to the Vols, but still, good work.
Who will be the next commit? That’s always the question that comes up after a big commitment.
There isn’t a clear answer to this one. None of Tennessee’s top targets have said the exact date they will be committing, but I believe the Vols are in a good spot for a couple of prospects.
A source has told SEC Country the Vols could be picking up a commitment from Tyus Fields at some point in the next month or so. The 4-star cornerback would be a welcomed addition to the class.
At 5-foot-10 and 175 pounds, Fields is a little smaller than what coach Jeremy Pruitt would typically target at the position. This means Fields can play corner at an extremely high level. Pruitt has a long history of putting defensive backs in the NFL, so if he makes you a priority, then he likely sees something special.
Tennessee also has been pushing hard for fast-rising corner Jaydon Hill. The Vols have been slightly behind South Carolina for a while on Hill, but have always remained in striking distance.
With a strong push this summer from the Vols, Hill very well could end up committing to Tennessee when the time comes. I don’t believe he wants his recruitment to drag too far into his senior season, either. Now is the time for the Vols to go all out for Hill.
