KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — During Wednesday’s weekly SEC Teleconference, Tennessee coach Butch Jones said tailback Jalen Hurd is “day-to-day” after the junior exited the miracle win over Georgia with a “lower extremity injury.”
Hurd had a strange performance in Athens, fumbling at the goal line while showboating into the end zone, only to return and catch a touchdown pass later in the game.
Despite leaving the game with an undisclosed injury late in the third quarter, Hurd was back on the field for Tennessee’s final kickoff return one play before the “Hail Mary Between the Hedges.”
Jones was asked specifically about Hurd’s injury, but Tennessee’s coach only said, “That was an end of the game situation. We don’t comment on injuries.”
Earlier this week, Jones told reporters Hurd, who has 407 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns in 2016, would be “full-go” in practice this week.
No. 9 Tennessee plays at No. 8 Texas A&M on Saturday (3:30 p.m., CBS).
