It would be understandable if Butch Jones was upset with some of the coverage he’s received over the past few years. From Tennessee’s occasionally underwhelming performance on the field to Jones’ infamous “champions of life” comments, the Volunteers’ head coach has often found himself the butt of the joke.
And yet, Jones’ positive attitude has persisted. In a speech at the Knoxville Rotary Club, as reported by GoVols247.com, Jones reiterated that he is proud of the way his team has evolved and grown in recent years, despite what he characterized as a “society of negativity.”
The Vols look like they may be heading toward somewhat of a rebuilding year now that QB Josh Dobbs and others have departed the program. That rebuild could reinforce Jones’ belief in that “society of negativity.” The one way to prove that society wrong, however, is to win football games. And that, undoubtedly, is Jones’ goal for 2017.
