OK, Tennessee fans. You just saw your Volunteers lose their chance at an undefeated season by falling in double overtime to Texas A&M, 45-38.
Your cardiac kids came back from a double-digit deficit for the fifth time this season, but this was the first one that left you saddened.
But guess what? Everything is still very much in front of you if you win out. And what better way to get this ugly taste out of your mouth than to beat No. 1 Alabama next week in Knoxville? Side benefit: You also get the better of that scoundrel, Lane Kiffin!
Consider this, Vols fans: You already hold tiebreakers over Florida and Georgia, and winning out means an 11-1 season and a berth in the SEC Championship Game, where you may not even have to face the Crimson Tide again.
Let’s say, for instance, that Texas A&M was your roadblock in Atlanta on the way to a College Football Playoff bid. You could exact revenge on the only team that beat you during the regular season, and you’d be on your way to a second straight game in Atlanta (the Peach Bowl is hosting one of the CFP semifinal games).
So, Vols fans, all is not lost. Just remember that what every coach says is true. This coming week is the most important week of the season.
That could not be more true for you.
