Tennessee received a special visitor for its first bowl practice in Florida on Sunday.
Four-star running back prospect Devan Barrett from Tampa (Fla.) Catholic High School stopped by to see the Vols’ light workout at the University of Tampa, according to GoVols247.com reporter Ryan Callahan. Barrett reportedly has several scholarship offers from prominent schools, including Alabama and Florida. Tennessee reportedly offered Barrett a scholarship earlier this month.
“It was definitely a big one to me,” Barrett told 247Sports when asked about Tennessee’s offer. “It’s a big-time school.”
Running back could be a key area of need in the 2017 class, especially if sophomores Jalen Hurd and Alvin Kamara decide to forgo their senior seasons and enter the NFL draft. Just a junior, Barrett is already 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds.
Barrett is rated as the No. 21 running back in the nation for 2017, and the No. 35 prospect in the state of Florida.
