HOOVER, Ala. — Tennessee’s Cam Sutton and Jalen Reeves-Maybin are going to let their play do the talking when it comes to the much-anticipated Florida game.
Sutton and Reeves-Maybin, both All-SEC candidates with All-American upside, represented the Vols “Orange Swarm” defense at the league’s media day event at the Wynfrey Hotel on Tuesday.
Tennessee is the prohibitive favorite to win the SEC East Division, much to the chagrin of the defending division champion, Florida.
The Gators, who have won 11 straight in the series, made it clear during their turn at SEC Media Days on Monday that they’re looking forward to playing the Vols in Knoxville on Sept. 24.
“I can’t wait to go to Tennessee, man, I can’t wait, that’s going to be the big game this year,” Florida offensive tackle David Sharpe said Monday.
Sutton and Reeves-Maybin, however, didn’t have much to say in rebuttal.
“We open with Appalachian State, which was an 11-win team last year,” Sutton said. “But we don’t concern ourselves with game down the line.”
Reeves-Maybin said there have been some disappointing losses during his career in Knoxville, but he doesn’t dwell on them.
“I know we’ve let some games slip away since I’ve been on the team,” Reeves-Maybin said. “We focus on one game at a time, and that (Florida game) is not what I’m dying to get to.
“I just want to focus on making our team better, so we don’t focus on that.”
