The Tennessee Volunteers aren’t looking past their week one opponent Appalachian State. But the Volunteers know now which quarterback they’ll be facing in the Pilot Flying J Battle at Bristol.
On Thursday, Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente named Jerod Evans the team’s starting quarterback. The Hokies will take on Liberty University before playing on Tennessee.

Evans is listed at 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds. He comes from Trinity Valley Community College in Texas and was a 4-star recruit. He was the No. 1 ranked JUCO quarterback per 247Sports Composite Rankings. He was also the No. 1 JUCO player in the state of Texas for the class of 2016.
After playing Appalachian State on Sept. 1, the Volunteers will have nine days to prepare for Evans and the Hokies. College Gameday also announced that it will be at the Battle of Bristol.
