Last October, Tennessee DE Jonathan Kongbo drew a collective gasp from fans after a tweet that made people think he was abruptly retiring from football.
Rocky Top scrambled to figure out what in the world the top JUCO prospect for 2016 meant with his picture of hanging cleats. However, it was eventually revealed that those were soccer cleats, and Kongo was “retiring” from FIFA, a popular soccer video game.
Here’s the tweet from last October that set the internet on fire if you missed it.

Apparently, that tweet came after what can only be viewed as a devastating defeat.
While it may have seemed like Kongbo was just joking about calling it quits from a video game, think again. While speaking with 247Sports’ Patrick Brown, the 6-foot-6, 264-pound redshirt junior has kept his word and hasn’t come around to picking the controller back up.
Even despite the fact that his Vols teammates have been trying to push those bad memories aside and get him back on the pitch.

It’s yet to be seen whether Kongbo can take baby steps and regain his confidence by dominating the computer on the “Amateur” difficulty before working his way back up to “Legendary.”
Then, of course, he’ll have to get revenge on whoever made him step away from FIFA.
