KNOXVILLE — Coach Butch Jones said it’s too soon to tell if Tennessee has become a more explosive football team, but he liked the enthusiasm and energy at the Vols’ first fall practice at Haslam Field on Monday.
“I did think we’re a little quicker and faster as a football team, but it’s also football endurance, mentally and physically,” Jones said. “I’ll continue to look or that as camp goes on.
“It’s practice one, everyone is excited from coaches to players …. a lot of times you can wear a team out in practice one and two in shorts and helmets because you are so excited.”
Jones said he’ll learn more about his team once the pads go on Saturday, but for now, he’s looking for Team 120 to get setup in a good routine.
“You are creating your habits, your style of play, how you take the field, your transitions and your leadership,” Jones said. “It’s making sure we correct the small details. Tomorrow will be critical as we correct the small mistakes and move on.”
