Tennessee has big expectations this year. They are predicted to finish first in the SEC and break a long drought after in a number of different facets. The work for that reward comes now in the offseason.
And Tennessee has some big questions and work to do to make good on all the preseason hype.
No player may represent that more than sophomore defensive tackle Jahlil McKenzie. And if his Instagram is saying anything, he is hard at work to do so.
McKenzie came to Knoxville last year with a lot of expectations. The five-star defensive tackle was the sixth best player in the country in his recruiting class according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.
The returns his freshman year were not great though. He recorded only 24 total tackles in nine games. More is certainly expected.
And that is even coming from the outside. At SEC Media Days, SEC Network analyst Greg McElroy called out McKenzie and the Tennessee defensive line on air and said the group needs to play better. McKenzie needs to make good on his hype.
That will remain to be seen if the offseason work can make good on those preseason expectations.
