KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Everyone knows the numbers.
Tennessee has lost 11 straight games to UF — twice in brutal fashion over the last two years.
But the streak has particularly stung for Sunshine State native Corey Vereen.
“For me personally, it’s definitely a key game in my mind,” he said.
Why? Well, Tennessee’s senior defense end from Winter Garden wasn’t recruited by the Gators and now his longtime girlfriend attends UT’s bitter rival.
“The funny thing is my girlfriend actually goes to Florida,” Vereen said, smiling.
“So I definitely make it a priority to beat them every year. It’s actually very interesting how all that happened.”
After last year’s devastating, fourth-quarter collapse in Gainesville, the Volunteers senior — who started the win over Ohio and recorded 3 tackles, 1 TFL and a 2 passes batted as the line — said he could barely talk to his girlfriend.
“It was very short,” Vereen said.
“But it was cool. I love her, so it’s all good.”
Asked about any conversations this week, Vereen chuckled before replying, “It’s going to be very limited in a sense.
“But it’s going to be very nice. Very nice.”
