Texas A&M fell behind early at Mississippi State on Saturday. Sophomore wide receiver Christian Kirk did his best to try to make sure the Aggies wouldn’t suffer an upset loss.
It didn’t quite work out, as A&M dropped just its second game of the season with a 35-28 loss. But it was still a huge day for Kirk nonetheless.
Kirk hauled in a nice 54-yard touchdown grab from Jake Hubenak, who was filling in for the injured Trevor Knight, to bring the Aggies within 7 points with 10:42 to go in the fourth quarter.

That wasn’t Kirk’s only big play of the day. He started the Aggies’ comeback attempt with a 93-yard punt return touchdown late in the first half.
Kirk hauled in a season-high 144 yards on 7 catches. It was the second-highest receiving total of his career. He had 173 as a freshman against Arkansas on Sept. 26, 2015.
The Aggies entered the game ranked No. 4 in the first College Football Playoff rankings, but they certainly will lose that spot next week after this loss.
