Former Texas A&M offensive coordinator Jake Spavital is trying to poach one of his former school’s top 2017 prospects.
Spavital is now the offensive coordinator at California, and the Golden Bears offered one of Texas A&M’s most prized recruits a scholarship on Wednesday.

Martell is a five-star recruit and the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback in the nation, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He committed to play in College Station, Texas, in August and hasn’t wavered since, even confirming his allegiance when quarterbacks Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray both transferred after the season ended. However, Spavital might have had plenty of influence in Martell’s decision to commit to Texas A&M.
Spavital was hired by Cal earlier this month after parting ways with Texas A&M in January. It appears there still could be some bad blood between both parties.
