Kansas has dismissed former Texas A&M wide receiver LaQuvionte Gonzalez from its football program for an unspecified violation of team rules, according to KUSports.com’s Benton Smith.
A university official confirmed Gonzalez’s dismissal Sunday, according to Smith.
Gonzalez would have been a senior this season at Kansas. The transfer from Texas A&M caught 62 passes for 729 yards and 3 touchdowns in 2016 after sitting out the 2015 campaign due to NCAA transfer rules. He averaged 21.5 yards per kick return with a touchdown.
The Jayhawks return their top receiver from last season, Stephen Sims Jr. But with Gonzalez gone, Kansas likely will need Alabama transfer Daylon Charlot and others to become significant contributors.
Gonzalez signed with the Aggies as a 4-star recruit in the Class of 2013. He played under Kansas coach David Beaty when Beaty coached receivers at Texas A&M.
