Johnny Manziel throws first career TD pass
Has Johnny Manziel arrived?
The former Texas A&M Heisman Trophy winner and 2014 Cleveland Browns first-round draft pick threw his first career touchdown pass on Sunday. It was a strike to Travis Benjamin on third-and-19 to put the Browns up 7-0 over the New York Jets in the second quarter.
“Johnny Football” entered the game after starter Josh McCown was injured.
Much has been made over whether or not Manziel can cut it in the NFL. Not only because of his skill set, but also because of off-the-field issues.
He’s undersized at 5-foot-11, 210 pounds and relies on an ability to scramble. He also has a boatload of well-documented struggles away from football.
Regardless, the pass he threw was on the mark and gave the Browns a lead in their season opener. That alone creates hope and optimism for a Browns fanbase that desperately needs both.
