Kirk Herbstreit added his voice to the online spat between Texas A&M assistant coach Tim Brewster and multiple Big 12 players and coaches.
On Monday, Brewster used Twitter to write that it’s “straight crazy” to compare Big 12 football to the SEC. Given Brewster’s place on coach Jimbo Fisher’s staff as a tight ends coach and an ace recruiter, boasting about the SEC in such a way shouldn’t be a surprise.
Still, you can understand why the tweet went over as well in Big 12 Land as rotten eggs in an omelet.
Interestingly, Kirk Herbstreit chimed in by referencing a tweet from Oklahoma assistant coach Cale Gundy that called out Brewster’s supposed hypocrisy. Then the ESPN analyst went at it with a few Twitter users, including one who wrote that ESPN is a “propaganda machine for the SEC.”

Of course, anything that Herbstreit writes on Twitter will become news. But it’s somewhat odd that he decided to become involved with the debate involving Brewster and multiple Big 12 voices. Clearly, there are passionate opinions on both sides of this situation.
It’s a stretch to consider that Herbstreit showed any “SEC bias” with his comments on Twitter. But his responses are notable, and they add another angle to the story.
