What’s next for Johnny Manziel’s football career is unknown, but his alleged partying in Las Vegas this weekend has led one of the biggest stars in sports to end his business relationship with the former Texas A&M quarterback.
LRMR, the marketing agency of future NBA Hall of Famer Lebron James, has ended its relationship with Manziel, according to a report by cleveland.com’s Joe Vardon.
“We’ve decided to end our formal business relationship with Johnny,” Maverick Carter, who is James’ business partner, told the website. “I will continue to support and advise him as a friend. However, because Johnny needs to focus on personal growth, the next phase of his career and because LRMR continues to expand beyond marketing, we made the mutual decision that it was best to terminate our business relationship.”
The agency has negotiated Manziel’s various endorsement deals since he signed with the group in 2014. Manziel’s split with the agency was inevitable, according to the report, as the marketing agency moves its focus toward James’ business ventures. However, the split may have been expedited by Manziel’s latest off-field issues.
Manziel missed a mandatory team meeting with the Cleveland Browns last Sunday after he was reportedly seen wearing a disguise and partying in Las Vegas the night before. James has been an ardent supporter of the former Heisman Trophy winner, but the Cleveland Cavaliers star acknowledged the difficulty of Manziel’s current situation.
“I don’t know all the details on it, I really kind of even haven’t been all up on it, but I’ve heard a little bit of it and it’s just a distraction for not only himself but for everyone that’s around him, including family, people that represent him, the people around him,” James told reporters Wednesday. He’ll figure it out at some point, we all hope.”
