After two injuries to the top two starting quarterbacks on the Aggies depth chart, Texas A&M will turn to freshman quarterback Kellen Mond to start Saturday at home against Louisiana-Lafayette.
Kevin Sumlin told ESPN’s Mark Schlabach that Mond will be making his first career start.
Reports earlier this week indicated Texas A&M’s original backup, Jake Hubenak, likely would not play due to a shoulder injury. The Aggies are without QB Nick Starkel, who sustained a broken ankle earlier this season. Schlabach also notes Hubenak did not participate in Friday’s practice but would try to go through pregame warmups.
Despite not starting this season, Mond has played, with mixed results. He has completed 15 of 38 for 132 yards.
Texas A&M and the Rajin’ Cajuns kick off at noon ET/11 a.m. CT on SEC Network.
