Kevin Sumlin is making some additions to his support staff who bring some serious coaching experience to the table.
According to a report from TexAgs.com, Sumlin is bringing former Middle Tennessee defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix and former New York Jets quarterbacks coach Kevin Patullo to College Station as senior analysts.
Nix, who served as a defensive assistant coach for Ole Miss from 2008-11, spent the last five seasons as Rick Stockstill’s defensive coordinator at Middle Tennessee. He was let go following the 2016 season.
Patullo, who was reported to be taking the role earlier this month, was the New York Jets quarterbacks coach for two years. He previously coached in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans, Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs, and also had college coaching stints with Arizona and South Florida. He oversaw the rise and fall of Ryan Fitzpatrick with the Jets most recently.
These are not on-field coaching roles, but adding this kind of knowledge and experience to the coaching staff could be a valued resource for Sumlin’s program.
