Texas A&M will hire Ulric Maligi as an assistant on Billy Kennedy’s basketball staff, according to Logan Lee of TexAgs.
Maligi didn’t coach during the 2015-16 season, instead accepting the national scouting director position with John Lucas Enterprises. Known for his recruiting ability, Maligi has held multiple assistant coaching jobs in Texas, spending three seasons at SMU, two at Houston, three at Stephen F. Austin and one at Texas-Arlington.
At SMU, Maligi was credited with helping the Mustangs land McDonald’s All-American Keith Frazier and Emmanuel Mudiay, although the latter elected to forgo college and instead play professionally in China.
Maligi will fill the void left by the departure of former assistant Rick Stansbury, who accepted the head coaching job at Western Kentucky.
