The week after new Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher made a splash by hiring defensive coordinator Mike Elko away from Notre Dame, he’s making more waves with another big hire.
According to TexAgs and multiple reports, Texas A&M has hired longtime Oklahoma strength and conditioning coach and director of sports performance Jerry Schmidt as the Aggies new strength and conditioning coach.

Schmidt marks the third such coach for the Aggies in as many seasons.
After spending 18 seasons with the Sooners, Schmidt returns to the SEC, where he served on Steve Spurrier’s staff at Florida in 1995. Bob Stoops was the defensive coordinator at Florida at the time, and when he took the Oklahoma job four years later, Stoops brought Schmidt with him to Norman.
Schmidt has been on championship-winning staffs at Oklahoma, Florida, and Notre Dame.
Aggies fans will hope that he can turnaround both the team’s bad trends (or luck) with injuries and its history of hot starts that fizzle into losses during the grind of November.
