Count San Diego State head football coach Rocky Long as one person not in favor of Jimbo Fisher’s monster contract to become the new head coach at Texas A&M.
Speaking on the Mark and Rich Show, Long slammed the fact that Fisher will make $75 million over 10 seasons without doing a thing on the field.
SDSU’s Rocky Long on Jimbo Fisher’s $75M contract: “He doesn't make 1 tackle, doesn't catch 1 pass, he doesn't score 1 TD. We’re not only in this to have a salary, we're in this to develop young men so (coaching salaries are) embarrassing at times” via Mark & Rich Show XTRA 1360

Fisher left Florida State a couple weeks ago but quickly landed on his feet in College Station, where he now is the third-highest paid head coach in college football, in terms of annual value.
It sounds like Long’s claim is multifaceted in that while maybe not saying it, he could be advocating for players to be compensated beyond cost of attendance. Also, he might be questioning some motives for coaching possibly moving away from working and helping young kids to whichever job pays the most. And further, his gripe likely lies with coaching salaries as a whole, not just Fisher’s.
Long certainly just wants to the focus of the sport to shine back on the players and their efforts for 3-4 years to grow as football players and young adults.
