Myles Garrett may be the No. 1 prospect in the NFL Draft according to most scouts, but at least one pundit thinks the Aggies star could be a total flop.
Fox Sports’ Skip Bayless, who has never shied away from a hot take, called Garrett a potential bust Wednesday. The Browns are reportedly deciding between taking Garrett or North Carolina QB Mitchell Trubisky with the first overall pick in the draft. But Bayless doesn’t like the idea of taking either player.
“Reportedly, the Browns are trying to decide between two potential first overall pick busts,” Bayless said. “Look, we’ve talked and talked about Myles Garrett … Most of his big sack games came against Louisiana Monroe, Lamar, Rice and UT-San Antonio. I’m sorry. I watch and watch so many college games, and he never leaped off my screen.”
Instead of Garrett or Trubisky, Bayless said he “would take Deshaun Watson No. 1 overall, and I wouldn’t look back.”
The Undisputed co-host was quick to point out Garrett had just 12 sacks in 21 career SEC games. Fellow co-host Shannon Sharpe said he understood the idea of taking Garrett with the top pick. However, Sharpe said the 6-foot-4, 272-pound defensive end “doesn’t always play to the measurables.”
Bayless went so far as to say Garrett isn’t even the best defensive player in the draft. He said he likes Ohio State safety Malik Hooker more.
“Would I take Myles Garrett maybe 10th overall, where I could sort of reduce my risk on him a little bit? Yeah, I might. But man, I like Malik Hooker a lot.”
Bayless is in the minority, as he often is when he throws out his more outlandish opinions. Garrett has been projected by most analysts as the No. 1 overall pick, and has even been compared to the NFL’s all-time sack leader. Hooker, meanwhile, is ranked as the draft’s No. 7 overall prospect by CBS Sports. Watson is ranked second among quarterbacks and is the No. 17 prospect overall.
