Just a few days after learning he had earned a scholarship at Texas A&M following two years as a walk-on, linebacker Cullen Gillaspia was presented with another honor on Friday.
The sophomore from Katy, Texas was presented with the 12th Man jersey an honor and tradition that dates back nearly a century in the storied program, Brian Perroni of 247Sports reported.
The No. 12 jersey at A&M is reserved for a walk-on or former walk-on who shows leadership and dedication in the program. The tradition was started in 1922 when E. King Gill came out of the stands to suit up with the team in a game against Centre College. His bold move and willingness to join with the team on the field led to Aggies fans being referred to as the 12th man since.
Can't believe this. Beyond blessed. Thank you to everyone who has helped me along the way. Hard work pays off.
