There may not be a better quarterback for new Green Bay Packers tight end Martellus Bennett than Aaron Rodgers.
Not only is he arguably the best quarterback in the NFL, but he is not afraid to do something in an unconventional way if it helps. Bennett has been using that to try and get to know Rodgers better.
“It’s been pretty cool,” Texas A&M’s Bennett said, via the Green Bay Press Gazette’s Stu Courtney. “Aaron’s a nice guy. There’s text messages, I send a lot of emojis and GIFs and stuff like that to him. Other than that, it’s just conversations. We just talk a lot, and that’s pretty much it. I tell him things like I like chocolate chip cookies, you know, what kind of cookie do you like?
“You know, when you’re younger you show pictures of your car and stuff like that. As you get older, it’s like, ‘Hey, look my daughter did this today. She’s jumping, or she learned to use the potty.’ Kind of stuff like that. … It’s just conversation, making friends with anyone, just talking to one another.”
Rodgers is already impressed with Bennett, and said his new tight end will bring a unique confidence to the Packers’ locker room.
What Bennett will also bring to the Packers is another dependable receiving target. According to presnapreads.com’s Cian Fahey, Rodgers lost more passing yards and touchdowns to “failed receptions” than any other quarterback in the NFL, via Packers Wire’s Zach Kruse.
Bennett totaled 55 receptions for 701 yards and 7 touchdowns for the New England Patriots in 2016. Rodgers will happily get to know any tight end that can produce like that.
