After barely sneaking into the 2017 NCAA Baseball Tournament, the Aggies took care of Baylor in the first game of the regionals, then knocked off Iowa. The Aggies faced regional host Houston, where Texas A&M dominated for a majority of the game. But the Cougars added 3 runs in the bottom of the ninth inning and even had the bases loaded for two batters in the frame.
But the Aggies got the final outs to win 4-3 and advance to their third straight Super Regional.
In the Super Regional, the Aggies built a 6-0 lead in the first game against Davidson, only to see the Wildcats rally to force extra innings. But Texas A&M prevailed 7-6 in 15 innings. The following day, the Aggies clinched a berth in the College World Series by scoring 7 runs in the eighth inning and 3 more in the ninth to pull away with a 12-6 victory over the Wildcats.
Louisville, meanwhile, had a relatively easy time with Kentucky in that Super Regional. In the series’ opening game, the Cardinals beat the Wildcats 5-2, after building a 5-0 lead through five innings. The following day, Louisville broke open a 2-1 lead with 2 runs in the sixth and 2 more in the eighth to gain the victory.
