Jimbo Fisher has yet to fully assemble his new staff at Texas A&M. However, according to the Aggies’ new head coach, a key piece may be added in the near future.
Fisher told Brent Zwerneman of the Houston Chronicle on Wednesday night that his timetable for hiring a defensive coordinator is “very, very soon.” Fisher recently became Texas A&M’s new coach after eight seasons leading Florida State.

One potential candidate for the Aggies’ defensive coordinator opening could be Phil Bennett, who announced on Tuesday that he was leaving that role at Arizona State after just one season. Although Bennett told new Sun Devils coach Herm Edwards that the reason for his departure was for family reasons. However, Bennett and his family have a home in College Station, TX.
John Chavis has served as the Aggies’ defensive coordinator the past three seasons.
Fisher has brought in Darrell Dickey to serve as offensive coordinator, while also adding Tim Brewster, Jay Graham and Dameyune Craig.
