Jimbo Fisher has filled the last spot on his new coaching staff at Texas A&M with the hiring of Minnesota assistant head coach Maurice Linguist as the Aggies’ defensive backs coach, per Billy Liucci of TexAgs.com.
Linguist, who served as the defensive backs coach for the Golden Gophers in 2017, had recently been promoted to the assistant head coach role in December by P.J. Fleck.
“Coach Linguist is an elite man who does an incredible job of leading our young people,” Fleck said in a statement. “He is a tremendous husband, father, coach and recruiter and is on his way to becoming a head coach one day in the future.”
He made an immediate impact in Minneapolis, helping the Gophers finish No. 11 in the nation in passing yards per game, giving up just 174.5 yards through the air.
A safety at Baylor from 2003-06, Linguist had made previous coaching stops at Mississippi State, Iowa State, Buffalo, James Madison, Valdosta State and Baylor.
