It was a great first weekend of March Madness for the Texas A&M basketball programs.

The Aggies men’s and women’s teams both won their pair of games in the NCAA Tournament to advance to next weekend’s Sweet 16. Those wins made history for the school, pointed out by the SEC Network on Monday.

Each team took a different path to the Sweet 16.

The Texas A&M women, seeded No. 4, took care of No. 13 Drake in the first round. But their first taste of madness came in the second round, when Chennedy Carter drilled a game-winning 3-pointer to defeat No. 5 DePaul 80-79.

On the men’s side, the No. 7 Aggies battled No. 10 Providence before pulling away late. Then they crushed North Carolina on Sunday night, upsetting the region’s No. 2 seed 86-65 in a dominant effort.

The women’s team advances to take on No. 1 Notre Dame on Saturday, March 24, while the men’s team has a quicker turnaround. The Aggies will take on No. 3 Michigan on Thursday night (March 22) at 7:37 ET on TBS.
