The college football world was collectively surprised when Texas A&M (7-1), ranked No. 7 in the AP poll, jumped Washington (8-0) for the fourth spot in the College Football Playoff rankings.
Fox Sports’ Colin Cowherd, however, thought it was the right choice.
On his daily radio show Wednesday, Cowherd pointed to No. 5 Washington’s non-conference schedule as one reason he wouldn’t have the Huskies above Texas A&M or Ohio State. The Huskies beat Rutgers, Idaho and Portland State in non-conference play.
“Conversely, Texas A&M, further along in the development of their program, got on the phone and dialed UCLA,” Cowherd said. “I watched every snap of that game. Texas A&M physically dominated UCLA.”
The Aggies also have a win at Auburn, which is No. 9 in the CFP rankings. Washington’s best win came last week at Utah, which is currently No. 16.
