CBS announcer Verne Lundquist has covered college football for a long time, so he’s seen all sorts changes in the sport.
One of the biggest changes the Texas native has gotten to see up close was Texas A&M’s jump to the SEC after spending so many years in the old Southwest Conference and then the Big 12.
During a new “Storytime with Uncle Verne,” Lundquist tells the story of the game that showed that the Aggies had truly arrived in the SEC: Johnny Manziel’s coming-out party against Alabama in 2012. And of course, Lundquist and his broadcast partner Gary Danielson were right there to announce it.
“If there was any question about A&M fitting into the SEC,” Lundquist said, “that question was answered quickly that afternoon.”
