UGA ‘becoming a factor’ for coveted recruit committed to Big Ten team

Georgia football currently holds the nation’s No. 5-ranked recruiting class for 2026, according to 247Sports. This would be the program’s lowest-ranked class since Kirby Smart came to Athens in 2016. Georgia took a huge blow on Dec. 3, early national signing day. Multiple Bulldog commits flipped to other schools, including the No. 1-ranked quarterback in America, Jared Curtis.

The Dawgs may have fallen a few spots in the team rankings, but Kirby Smart’s 2026 class is not finished yet.

UGA is picking up steam to flip a high-profile recruit from a Big Ten school. While most recruits sign their letter of intent during the early signing period, four-star wide receiver and Michigan State commit Samson Gash chose not to sign early. Gash will instead wait until national signing day on Feb. 4 to make things official with his future school.

This is great news for Georgia, as they have started making a late push for the No. 5-ranked wide receiver in Michigan, officially offering Gash on Dec. 12. The Bulldogs’ pursuit comes in the aftermath of four-star wide receiver commit Brady Marchese flipping to Michigan on Dec. 3.

The speedster, who recently set an MHSAA record with a 10.41-second 100-meter dash, has seen his recruitment become much more exciting in the past week. This past week, Gash received offers from Georgia and Penn State, where his father played.

Additionally, Michigan State has just undergone a change in head coach, which could affect Gash’s decision.

According to Jeremy Johnson of DawgsHQ, Georgia has put itself in the mix. He wrote that UGA is ‘quickly becoming a factor’ in Gash’s recruitment.

“Georgia is quickly becoming a factor for 4-star Michigan State commit Samson Gash,” Johnson wrote. “Georgia offered on Friday night and the Bulldogs are already angling for a visit early in 2026.

UGA has definitely sparked the interest of the 6-foot, 180-pound prospect.

“My feelings are really good about Georgia. They are a great program and constantly have star receivers,” Gash told DawgsHQ. “Georgia is a top program in the country, and it sticks out because of the way they produce NFL talent. It impacts me a lot because the NFL is my goal.”

Gash ranks as the nation’s No. 381 overall player, per 247Sports.

Samson Gash has made it clear that he will give the Dawgs a full opportunity to earn his pledge.

“I’ll be looking into it for sure and taking everything step by step,” Gash said. “They are making me a big priority and want to get this relationship built really fast and want me to get down there as soon as possible.”

Gash, who racked up 1,700 yards and 18 touchdowns in his senior year, has indicated that he will be making a visit to Athens in January.
