Former Vanderbilt fullback Clark Lea reportedly will be Notre Dame’s linebackers coach.
As reported by Mike Organ of The Tennessean, Lea is on his way to South Bend, Ind., after spending last season as linebackers coach at Wake Forest with new Notre Dame defensive coordinator Mike Elko. Elko replaces Brian VanGorder, who was fired last September. Greg Hudson served as the Fighting Irish’s interim defensive coordinator.
Lea was a baseball player at Birmingham Southern and Belmont before transferring to Vanderbilt in 2002.
He joined the Commodores’ football team as a walk-on before earning a scholarship. He had nine carries for 20 yards for Vanderbilt from 2002-04.
Notre Dame went 4-8 this past season.
