Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason found himself caught in the coaching rumor circuit on Wednesday. And it didn’t take him long to clear the air.
The third-year Commodores coach was mentioned by FOX Sports’ Bruce Feldman as someone that Cal may have interest in hiring to replace the recently fired Sonny Dykes.
Mason took to Twitter on Wednesday afternoon to alleviate any concerns the Commodores faithful may have had about a potential departure, tweeting: “Regaring Cal rumors… to my team, our fans & #GoldRush17, I’m firmly Anchored Downi in Nashville. Let’s Ride!”

Mason enjoyed his most successful season at Vanderbilt in 2016, beating Georgia, Ole Miss and Tennessee on his way to an Independence Bowl appearance. The Commodores lost to North Carolina State in their first bowl appearance since the 2013 season.
