Vanderbilt is 2-0 after a win against Alabama A&M on Saturday, and according to at least one SEC Network personality, the Commodores are the best team in the state of Tennessee right now.
That sound you hear is the collective gasp of Volunteers fans.
When asked on Twitter on good Derek Mason’s team is right now, SEC Network studio host answered:
Kyle Shurmer playing like the best QB in SEC right now. Defense is what we thought we’d get from a Mason team. Better than Tenn right now. https://t.co/Uch1rnfT2q

Those are strong words, especially for the play of quarterback Kyle Shurmer. Burns could have a point, though. In two games so far this season, Shurmer has completed 76.1 percent of his passes while throwing for 498 yards and seven touchdown. Better yet, he has yet to throw an interception.
The Commodores defense has been excellent as well, giving up just six points in the two games against Middle Tennessee and Alabama A&M.
While the season is still young, the showdown in Knoxville on Nov. 25 between the Commodores and Volunteers, who are also 2-0, could shape up to be a classic if both teams continue on their current path.
