After struggling to find an offensive identity in the first half of the season, Vanderbilt has decided to make a change at quarterback.
Sophomore Johnny McCrary, who threw an SEC-high 10 interceptions in six starts, has been replaced under center by true freshman Kyle Shurmur. Adam Sparks of The Tennessean first reported the news. A former 4-star prospect out of Glenside, Pa., Shurmur will burn his redshirt by playing against Missouri.
Commodores coach Derek Mason had said during the week that his team was “exploring every option” at the position. Utlimately, Vandy chose to go with youth and potential over keeping the status quo — an offense had committed the most turnovers in the SEC entering Saturday (16).
Shurmur was under center for Vanderbilt’s first offensive snap of the game.
