It certainly wasn’t easy, but the Vanderbilt Commodores have made the field of 68 and will participate in the 2016 NCAA Tournament. Vanderbilt earned a No. 11 seed in the South Region.
However, Vanderbilt’s (19-13, 11-7 SEC) road to Houston will be a bit more difficult because it first must get past fellow No. 11 seed Wichita State in a play-in game in Dayton, Ohio on Tuesday to move into the 64-team bracket.
The Commodores have gone on a tumultuous ride this season. They squandered numerous opportunities against tournament-caliber teams during the non-conference portion of the schedule. Then they dropped their first three conference games and appeared left for dead before rattling off wins in four of their next five.
Vanderbilt appeared to play its way into the field with wins in six of its final eight regular-season contests. However, a loss to Tennessee in the SEC tournament quarterfinals put Vanderbilt back on the bubble. The Commodores are in the field, but have a tough road ahead.
