Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason took a few big steps toward filling out his coaching staff Wednesday.
Mason hired Cameron Norcross, formerly of Fresno State and Nevada, to work as the team’s offensive line coach. Norcross has coached in college football for 15 years, 11 of which came at his alma mater of Nevada and the last four as the offensive line coach at Fresno State.
“We are very pleased to welcome coach Norcross to campus,” Mason said in a press release. “He’s one of the nation’s top young offensive line coaches, a fantastic recruiter and excellent teacher. Cameron also brings a blue-collar mentality and strong work ethic to the role.”
But the Norcross hire might not be the only addition Mason made to the Vanderbilt coaching staff Wednesday. Reports coming from FootballScoop say that sources have connected Oklahoma assistant CJ Ah You and former Wisconsin assistant Jeff Genyk to positions on the Commodores’ staff.
Fresh off a college football playoff appearance, Ah You is expected to join on as Vanderbilt’s defensive line coach, the position he has held at Oklahoma. Ah You spent six seasons in the NFL, primarily as a backup or on the practice squad with the St. Louis Rams.
Genyk, who spent the last three years at Wisconsin as a tight ends and special teams coach, is expected to serve as Vanderbilt’s special teams coordinator. Genyk was the head coach at Eastern Michigan from 2004-2008, over which period his teams went 16-42.
