Derek Mason’s 2017 recruiting class is shaping up.
Vanderbilt added to it Saturday night when 3-star inside linebacker Feleti Afemui pledged his commitment to the Commodores.
“First off I just wanna than God for everything he’s done for me in my life,” Feleti Afemui wrote via Twitter. “I wanna acknowledge that without his love and grace working in my life, I would’t have had the opportunities I’ve been blessed with. I wanna thank my Grandma, my Mom and Dad, and my family and friends for their support and sacrifices in helping me to be where I am today. I also wanna thank the coaches and staff who believed in me and gave me the opportunity to come and play at their school. I also wanna thank Maui High for helping me on and off the field as a student-athlete. With that being said, after much thought and prayer, I’m humbled to announce that I am Committing to Vanderbilt University. #God1st #AnchorDown”
The 6-foot-3, 222-pound linebacker holds seven reported offers and chose the Commodores over Army, Fresno State and Hawaii, among others.
The Maui native is ranked as the nation’s No. 57 inside linebacker and the state of Hawaii’s No. 10 overall prospect, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.
Afemui becomes the 16th commit in Vanderbilt’s 2017 class, joining fellow 3-star linebackers Dimitri Moore and Colin Anderson.
