Vanderbilt lost one of its top young pitchers in a tragic accident on Thursday night.
Donny Everett, a freshman pitcher for the Commodores, drowned at a Coffee County Lake, according to Adam Sparks of the Tennessean.
The Commodores are slated to play an NCAA Regional game against Xavier on Friday, but Vanderbilt spokesman Rod Williamson said the status of the game remains unclear.
Everett was named the 2015 Gatorade Tennessee Player of the Year and was a key member of a Vanderbilt recruiting class that was ranked No. 1. The Clarksville, Tennessee, native recorded a 1.50 ERA, while striking out 13 batters in 12 innings of action for the Commodores.

Still can't believe this happened… Probably one of the better guys on and off the field that I've ever met. Rest in peace, Donny Everett.
