The funeral service for former Vanderbilt pitcher Donny Everett has been set for 4 p.m. CT Tuesday, the funeral home handling the arrangements posted on its website.
Everett accidentally drowned Thursday at Normandy Lake in Manchester, Tennessee while boating with friends and teammates. Members of the Vanderbilt baseball team will serve as pallbearers.
Everett’s death came just a day before the Commodores were to host an NCAA tournament regional in Nashville. An extra-innings game forced Vanderbilt’s first game Friday vs. Xavier to be pushed to Saturday. The Commodores lost that game 15-1 after the Musketeers scored 13 runs in the seventh inning, and the team was eliminated from tournament play after falling 9-8 to Washington later in the day.
Everett was named the 2015 Gatorade Tennessee Player of the Year and was a key member of a Vanderbilt recruiting class that was ranked No. 1. The Clarksville, Tennessee, native recorded a 1.50 ERA, while striking out 13 batters in 12 innings of action for the Commodores.
