The three Vanderbilt players involved in a double shooting on Monday — Donaven Tennyson, O’montae Daley, and Frank Coppet — have been suspended indefinitely from all football activities, per a statement from the university.
The incident occurred when Tennyson arranged a second meeting with the person who allegedly stole the player’s phone after acting like a prospective buyer. During the follow-up meeting, in which Daley and Coppet were also involved, the players reportedly brought a pellet gun to the Target parking lot where they were to meet.
Spotting the gun, one of the men at the meeting begin to shoot at the players with a pistol, while another man had a shotgun. Daley suffered a wound to his leg while Coppet was hit in the arm. The injuries, per the university, are not life-threatening.
