The Commodores’ season opener in Nashville could reveal quite a bit about them. Many expect South Carolina to struggle this year, and a victory over the Gamecocks, who will be opening the Will Muschamp era, would start the fall off in the right way for Vanderbilt. Coach Derek Mason will look to win more than four games in a single season for the first time in his tenure with the Commodores.
Of course, Webb will be a highlight for Vanderbilt’s offense. The skilled runner totaled a career-high 1,152 yards rushing with five touchdowns last season. Shurmur will be expected to do more after playing behind Johnny McCrary last year. Shurmur had 503 yards passing with five touchdowns and three interceptions in 2015.
