Vanderbilt football faces North Carolina State in the Camping World Independence Bowl on Monday.
Few teams enter the postseason with as much momentum as the Commodores (6-6, 3-5 SEC). After the season’s low point — and what looked like a death knell for its bowl chances — Vanderbilt rebounded from a road loss to Missouri to post back-to-back upset wins to close the year. Those came against Ole Miss and, most impressively, Tennessee.
Derek Mason’s team closes the season against N.C. State (6-6) at 5 p.m. ET Monday in Shreveport, La. Both teams look for a seventh win, and there’s a big difference in 7-6 than 6-7 in national perspective. Either way, the Commodore’s 2016 season has been an up-and-down year, but it’s ultimately been a positive effort as Vanderbilt continues to rebuild.
