College football’s most prestigious honor, the Heisman Trophy, will be awarded on Dec. 13. At the conclusion of the regular season, the trophy is given to the player deemed the nation’s best by media and former Heisman winners.
In Georgia’s storied history, the Bulldogs have had two winners. Frank Sinkwich was UGA’s and the SEC’s first-ever recipient in 1942. Herschel Walker took home the award 40 years later in 1982 after one of the most decorated careers in college football history. The 2025 ceremony will mark 43 years since a Dawg last held the iconic trophy.
Going that long, a program that puts out as many great players as Georgia feels due for a winner.
With two games remaining in the regular season, one player has an underdog chance to break UGA’s drought.
Quarterback Gunner Stockton started the season with many doubters and few believers outside of Athens, Ga., but all the junior out of Tiger, Ga., has done is deliver. Stockton has left it all on the field this year, scoring 27 touchdowns and leading UGA to a 9-1 record so far. Still, the Dawgs signal-caller has flown under the radar.
Last week, in a top-10 matchup against Texas, Gunner scored five touchdowns in a 35-10 win at Sanford Stadium.
The nation has seemed to finally take notice as Stockton has now moved up to fifth in Heisman odds at +2500 per FanDuel. However, most Georgia fans believe that he is still not getting the full respect he deserves. Fortunately, you can help the underdog hoist the coveted trophy in December.

The Heisman Trophy is decided by three groups of voters: media members from six regions across the country, all living Heisman winners, and the official fan vote. The fan vote counts as one full ballot in the final tally, weighted the same as any individual voter. Fans can cast their vote on social media using the required format or through the Heisman Fan Vote website, and whichever player receives the most fan support earns that single ballot. It won’t swing the entire race, but it does give fans a real voice in the process and can help bring added attention to a player’s season.
